Penny Gains Confidence by Lynn Miclea

My Summary: Penny is a little bunny who gets picked on over her short leg. She and a friend come together and learn to stand up to their bullies and accept their imperfections as beautiful, even managing to make new friends along the way.

My Rating: 5/5

My Review: I don’t usually review children’s stories, but being a mom to a four-year-old little girl, I read sooo many children’s stories. Our homeschool curriculum is greatly supplemented with a “learning through literature” course full of assigned read-aloud books of hidden messages and learning opportunities. I’m reviewing this one because even though it wasn’t suggested in our curriculum, Penny Gains Confidence is one to treasure. The message of acceptance and self-love is loud and clear, making it easy for a young child to comprehend. At an age where they are experiencing insecurities and bullying for the first time, Penny Gains Confidence comes at the perfect moment to help shift a young child’s perspective and teach them how to process unwarranted criticism. I highly recommend this story and will be purchasing more of Lynn’s books in the future for my daughter and I to read together.
